Diane Sawyer to Replace Charles Gibson on World News
Charles Gibson, the anchor of ABCs World News, will be stepping down from his position at the end of this year, and is set to be replaced by current Good Morning America host, Diane Sawyer. Sawyer,63, will reportedly begin work on World News in January, making her the second female ever to host an evening news programKatie Couric currently serves as the anchor of CBS Evening News.

In a statement released by ABC News President, David Westin, Sawyer is described as the right person to succeed Charlie and build on what he has accomplished. She has an outstanding and varied career in television journalism, beginning with her role as a State Department correspondent and continuing at 60 Minutes, Primetime Live, and Good Morning America.
